Welcome to The Rise Blog. This is my first post, so I want to share the heart of my mission and what inspired me to create this platform.
Health Equity Matters
Health isn’t just about hospitals or medicine. It’s about the basics like education, housing, healthy food, and clean water. Yet, for women and girls around the world, these essentials are often out of reach. Disparities like gender bias, unequal pay, and cultural barriers limit access to the very resources that keep our communities healthy. The COVID-19 pandemic made this painfully clear. As everything closed down, women, especially those in low-income and marginalized communities, were hit the hardest. They took on more caregiving, faced higher job losses, endured rising rates of gender-based violence, and much more. These are not separate issues. Women’s health is deeply tied to social justice, and every woman deserves a fair shot at good health.
Our Start: Small Kits, Big Meaning
Rise 4 Health began with a simple idea. After volunteering at a shelter for young mothers and having a conversation with one of the staff members, I noticed that many people lacked easy access to items like dental supplies and skin care products. It was a small thing, but it stuck with me. What if I could help by handing out kits full of necessities to women in need? I started accumulating and donating supplies. The response was immediate. People were grateful, and we realized these kits helped fill a need and showed that someone cared.
That was a source of inspiration for Rise 4 Her Health. My goal is to partner with women's shelters and community free clinics to offer women more than just medicine. I focus on everyday items: first aid kits, dental supplies, pill boxes, skin care products, toiletries, etc. These aren’t grand gestures, but they matter.
Addressing the Roots
There’s plenty of research, and honestly, common sense, that says when we address the root causes, like housing, food, and basic supplies, health improves. I want to help build a world where a woman's future isn’t dictated by circumstances she never chose.
